They are manufactured by 'sandwiching' an aramid honeycomb core between layers of self-adhesive, medium modulus carbon fiber prepreg. By separating the carbon fiber skin with an aramid honeycomb core, these sandwich panels offer greater strength properties than those of the skins alone. Our sandwich panels are cured with high temperature and under pressure resulting in fully consolidated carbon fiber skins that are completely bonded to the aramid honeycomb core.
Manufactured with lightweight, high strength aramid honeycomb, our honeycomb core sandwich panels feature higher compressive strength and lower core densities when compared to our balsa and foam core sandwich panels. The aramid honeycomb core is manufactured with high bondable properties to insure the structural integrity of the panel remains intact.
Honeycomb composites helps provide lightweight strength, stiffness, toughness, corrosion resistance and other attributes, which bring high value-in-use to industries such as mass transportation, construction, and marine shipping.
As with all carbon fiber and composites (like fiberglass, carbon Kevlar etc.) good results can be achieved for cutting, shaping and finishing this sheet using regular workshop tools like hacksaws, jigsaws and wet-and-dry. Specialist tools can, however, make lighter work of the job and produce better results.
